Trump Defends Tariffs: ‘Our Country Is Going to Come Roaring Back’
Washington, D.C. – President Donald Trump defended his tariff policies during a press gaggle, emphasizing that they will play a crucial role in revitalizing the U.S. economy and ensuring fair trade practices.
Responding to a question about how tariffs will financially benefit the United States, Trump asserted that they would bring “tremendous wealth back” to the country. He stressed that tariffs would serve as a corrective measure against nations that have taken advantage of unfair trade practices.
“It was tariffs used in reverse that really brought our country to a position that we don’t ever want to be in again,” Trump stated. “When somebody is treating us badly, we’re going to put tariffs on. They’re going to be very fair and reciprocal.”
Trump further argued that the U.S. economy will surge as a result of these policies:
“Our country is going to come back very, very strong. I think our country is going to come roaring back. The tariffs are a big deal.”
Drawing comparisons to China’s economic strategy, Trump noted that other nations leverage tariffs to their advantage and suggested that the U.S. should employ them more effectively.
“That’s how China does it, and that’s how a lot of other people do it. And we do it better than them,” he said.
While critics argue that tariffs could lead to higher consumer prices and trade tensions, Trump and his administration remain firm in their belief that these policies will level the playing field and bolster American industries.
The statement comes amid ongoing discussions with global trade partners, including Australia, which has been exempt from certain tariff measures. Trump’s latest remarks reaffirm his “America First” stance on economic policy as his administration pushes for greater trade fairness and economic resurgence.
