In a visit to Staten Island, New York City, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) spoke to members of the NYPD and touted his law and order and education policies.
Ron DeSantis, the Governor of Florida, recently gave a speech in NYC where he criticized what he referred to as "feckless politicians" who attack police. He argued that police officers risk their lives and should not have to face criticism from politicians who are "out showboating."
DeSantis also criticized the defund the police movement and said that it was an attempt to harness anti-police sentiment to cut the police force and replace police officers with social workers. He argued that social workers would not be able to respond to certain crimes and that police officers are necessary for public safety.
DeSantis also discussed other issues, such as his opposition to injecting matters of sexuality and gender theory into elementary schools and his efforts to fight critical theory. He argued that some critical theory teaches kids to demonize and hate law enforcement, which he called "simply unacceptable." He also discussed his efforts to establish programs where school districts can have students work with law enforcement and see what they do firsthand.
DeSantis also criticized "woke policies" that have been put into place in some jurisdictions, which he said have created disastrous policies. He argued that politicians who run for office in Democrat primaries often try to out-woke each other, which leads to policies that are harmful to public safety.
