Does Elon Musk Want To Charge $20 Per Month For The Twitter Verification Blue Badge? Here are the rumours spreading about the update:
Would you pay every month to remain verified on Twitter?
That is rumoured to be the newly revamped verification process coming to Twitter. So let me go through the rumours. The main rumour is that if you are verified, you have 90 days to start paying once this feature goes into effect.
The feature is due November 7th, and if the employees don't get it done in time, they will be fired. The cost will be twenty dollars ($20) a month for a more expensive winter blue version. Of course, it is worth remembering why verification exists on Twitter, to begin with because Twitter got sued.
I get the feeling that Twitter might end up back in court over impersonator accounts if they're trying to say, well, you only get a verified account if you pay him every month. We'll see how that actually ends up going.
Now he's also said in the past that he wants to authenticate all real humans, and there have been rumours in the past of how he wants to do that, including charging for Twitter blue verification.
There have been rumours that he wants to charge by the tweet, that he wants some form of identification presented in the future, and that he wants to use Twitter to prove that everyone is a real person.
So I guess the question is if these rumours are true if you really do have to pay Elon Musk $20 a month to be verified on Twitter.
Do you think it's worth it to you?
If you had to give Elon Musk your private information to be able to tweet, would that be worth it to you?
If it costs you, let's say a small amount, even a super insignificant amount of cryptocurrency, to tweet, would that be worth it to you?
I think if he goes down the route of charging for verification, we are going to end up with lawsuits because people are going to leave out of anger. The platform, of course, can still exist without blue check marks on the platform, but I do think this might not be as big of a revenue stream as he's hoping, especially with some of the things being posted on Twitter.
Now they might end up with an apocalypse similar to YouTube, and I just don't see twenty dollars a month from a few users making up for losing most of the advertising on the platform.
The whole verification process is being revamped right now
