US President Joe Biden meets with FEMA officials for a briefing on the impacts of Hurricane Ian and the ongoing federal response efforts.
Earlier, President Biden approved an emergency declaration in Florida as we brace for the IAN Hurricane. FEMA is on alert with water, meals, and generators at the ready.
Ian is moving towards Florida, now a category 3. It could slow down once it hits Florida. This means Floridians are going to experience the impacts of this storm for a very long time.
The FEMA administrator just got back from Miami and briefed the media from the White House Tuesday. Storm surge is a leading cause of hurricane-related fatalities. In addition to the storm surge, we're also going to see significant rainfall, with the possibility of up to 25 inches.
Today, President Biden was briefed on Hurricane Ian at FEMA headquarters in Washington after his trip to South Florida yesterday was postponed, and he approved Governor DeSantis's request for an emergency declaration.
