US Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to visit SC State in Orangeburg to talk to graduates.
Today, Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to the Midlands. She is visiting South Carolina State University. This comes less than one year after President Joe Biden spoke to the school's fall 2021.
According to the university, it welcomed its largest freshman class in 15 years this fall. Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to speak about the importance of voting and other topics affecting young people.
As HBCU alums, students are hoping VP Kamala Harris will acknowledge this personal connection to the student body. The full convocation will be held at the Smith Hammond Middleton Memorial Center at 1pm for Street Squad Orangeburg. On the other hand, President Biden is set to deliver a speech on the DISCLOSE Act at the White House today.
President Biden gave the commencement address at the Orangeburg school last December. District Congressman Jim Clyburn had originally been scheduled to give the keynote address, but he asked the president to speak instead during the 2020 election. Coburn's endorsement of Biden for the Democratic nomination is widely believed to have revived his campaign, leading to his win in November.
