Mike Pence with Donald Trump during a campaign event |
Former President Donald J. Trump and Former Vice President Mike Pence give dueling speeches in Washington, DC Today.
Donald Trump's live address at the America first agenda summit in Washington DC is expected to be a major policy speech today. Mr. Trump's speech comes hours after his former running mate Mike Pence touts his own agenda for the Republican party. It focused on his freedom agenda and moving the GOP forward. Pence in his DC Speech said:
I came today not to look backward, but to look forward. The truth of the matter is now, more than ever, conservatives need to be focused on the challenges Americans are facing today. And offer a bold and positive agenda of solutions for the future.
What stood out the most from Mr. Mike Pence's DC speech today?
This idea of looking toward the future and not toward the past. You can guess who he is talking about there. That is his former boss, Former President Donald Trump, who was also in Washington DC today. We have both Trump and Pence in Washington DC today, giving their dueling speeches. We sought over the weekend when they were both in Arizona last weekend.
What is significant about pence is that he is laying the groundwork for his own run. He is giving subtle nudges or pokes a little bit by digging at Trump a little bit by saying that he is focused on the last election while Republicans need to be focused on the future and policy items that they need to run on.
It is interesting because former VP Pence is also touting the agenda items of the Trump/Pence of Thracian. They are promoting a lot of the agenda items that Republicans are likely going to try to run on in the midterms. So it will be interesting to see how Pence navigates this but significant that he is not waiting for a decision from Trump, he's going ahead and giving these kinds of speeches and endorsing candidates that the President is not endorsing or that are running against the president's choices.
How have members of the Republican Party in DC been reacting to the separation between the former President and Vice President?
It is interesting because they set up two different camps. Are you in the Trump lane or are you on the Pence wing or some other lane that might be occupied by someone like Larry Hogan or others, who are turning their noses at trump? But here that line is being drawn. Do you want to focus on the past election and past grievances, or do you want to focus on republican policies and contrast with the current Biden Harris administration and democrats, and that is what Pence was essentially saying in his DC speech today.
But at the same time, you have a Republican Party base that is still very connected to former President Donald Trump. He got a big crowd in Arizona and has been endorsing candidates up and down the ballot and endorsing candidates that believe in his false claims about the election. It is a crossroads for the party.
How much is the January 6 house investigation impacting both Trump and Pence's position within the GOP?
When you speak with republican strategists, they say that republican voters are not paying attention to the hearings but they also say look at how other potential candidates are reacting. Does the information that we are learning from the January 6 committee, a lot of damning information about former President Trump about what he didn't do during the attacks, more information is coming out day by day, does encourage some of the other Republican candidates who are thinking about running in 2024 to step into the ring and say.
According to one person we talked to in DC, he said Republican voters may not be paying attention to these committee hearings, but the other candidates are possibly watching this and internalizing it, do they want the nominee to be attached to that? And that is something to pay attention to and listen for and some of these speeches from DeSantis or Pence or Nikki Haley or Mike Pompeo does it give room to say I can operate here I don't need to wait for the former president to decide.
Pence is a traitor to the Republican Party and the citizens of America. He had the chance to keep us from electing Trump. His career is over!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely right, TRUMP did win the election and NOTHING has ever been allowed to be presented to ANY court regarding the fraudulent activity in the 2020 election. Always NO STANDING. It has been BS all the way by Democrats calling the TRUMP win "alleged" or other BS words to that effect. And, we'll decide who we want in office NEXT and Ds can kiss our butts.
